iPhone Application Guide / Starting and Stopping a Walk

topdog said:
When you click on the "Start My Walk" button, the application will load a map centred on your current location and you can now put the phone in your pocket and start walking with your dog!

While you are walking, there are 2 other icons that you can click on.

The push pin icon allows you to refresh our points of interest which are overlaid on top of the map. This is where you can see the locations of vets, events, groups and other points of interest as they are added to our database.

The Centre Me icon simply re-centres the map on your current location if you have dragged the map elsewhere to have a look for something.

When you have finished your walk, click on the Stop My Walk button.

You can either continue walking (maybe you pressed stop by accident) or really stop logging the walk. You only have a few seconds to decide before this screen will disappear and the application will continue with your walk as it will assume that it got joggled in your pocket by mistake.

Once you do stop the walk, you will be asked if you want to upload it to our website (yes, please!).

Note that when you start a walk, if you have been walking within the last 90 minutes, you will be asked if you would like to resume that walk or start a new one. This feature allows you to stop off at the pub for lunch, but have the morning and afternoon walks treated as a single continuous walk.

I am probably doing something wrong - I finished my walk, asked it to upload, it said that it was successful but when I log into the site on my PC, it said I didn't have any walks, so I drew it, which wasn't nearly so much fun. What am I doing wrong?

Hi Monty

I *think* the problem may be that you didn't have your account details in the iPhone application before you started the walk? You need to do that from the settings page of your iPhone.

See the link here

So although we have stored the walk safely, we haven't displayed it yet because we didn't know who made it.

Hi topdog,
I think I made the same mistake as Monty - is there any way of finding my walk in those that have been stored safely, or do I need to enter it manually like Monty did?
many thanks, DFS

Hi DFS

You will need to check that you have entered your account details OK for future walks to show up.

That said, if you private message (or email) your device ID to topdog, we will be able to pick up any previous walks that aren't yet tied to your account and link them up.

If you aren't sure how to find your device ID, check out this link.

Thank you Top Dog - its working really well now.

(For future development it would be great if the length of time the walks took was logged from the i-phone app.)
