In the states most children are FORCED to have a minimum of 8 vaccinations before the age of 12. If a child has seemingly any form of behaviour problem the first step seems to prescribe them Ritalin an anti-depressant!

If it wasn't bad enough to constantly drug and dumb down the population now they want to do it to our DOGS! The one-a-day tablet, which tastes of beef, is said to help cure 'canine compulsive disorder' and 'separation anxiety' brought on by owners' long absences during the day. Symptoms include poor behaviour, whimpering or tail-chasing. The drug, called Reconcile, is also designed to curb the compulsive pacing, chewing and dribbling which its makers claim is a result of depression brought on by their owners' long absences. The term "designed to" is more than questionable, if you turn your dog into a ZOMBIE then by default it will stop chasing it's tail, chewing and...well, being a dog? Eli Lilly, the drug's US manufacturer, said: 'Treatment for companion animals is a relatively new area for us.' Trials involving more than 660 mentally-disturbed pets in Europe and the US produced improvements in behaviour within eight weeks. Roger Mugford, an animal psychologist, has been quoted as saying: 'Most breakthroughs in dog behaviour are achieves by carrying a titbit and using it wisely, not by drugs. Reconcile has now unbelivably been granted a licence by the UK's Veterinary Medicines Directorate. It was first licensed in the US three years ago for separation anxiety from being left alone for long periods (the debate should be...should you be aloud to have a dog if you need to drug it because you can't spend enough time with it?). It get's better hear this; The American Food and Drug Administration said it should be taken with therapy to modify the dog's behaviour - and should be taken by puppies as young as six months (yes 6 months they are saying, I guess that's to make sure you need to buy them for the rest of your dogs life) At the time, Steve Connell, Eli Lilly's manager of consumer services for companion animal health, said that more than 10million US dogs exhibit strange symptoms from being left alone too long (well done Sherlock!). In Britain, research for Sainsbury's Bank in 2003 indicated that 632,000 dogs and cats had suffered from depression in the previous year. Sainsbury's sell pet insurance of course! If you were to leave a child home alone for a long period then it might well show some serious behavioural problems, should you, A: give the child drugs to help the problem, or B: STAY HOME WITH YOU DOG MORE, TAKE IT WITH YOU, OR GET A DOG WALKER TO HELP !!!! Sorry for the rant, but this one is maddening, and seems to do nothing but add a new revenues stream to the already rich drug company's. BTW, Side effects of Reconcile can include lethargy, reduced appetite, vomiting, shaking, diarrhoea, restlessness, excessive barking, aggression and seizures in a small number of dogs, nice! Companionship, love, food and plenty of exercise will keep nearly all dog's happy and in no need of much else! Have a look at a happy dog! And one last thing, think hard if your vet suggests your dog needs an anti-depressant...it's enough to make me depressed!
